Sound Absorbers - Impact Resistant
Impact Resistant Sound Absorbent Wall Treatment
A high performance, perforated steel faced, sound absorbent wall treatment that can be installed
as a continuous system, to cover part or complete walls, as well as affording the alternative of individual feature
panels. Typically used to minimise the effects of undesirable sound reflections and hence lower reverberation time
(RT) in sports or multi-purpose community halls, or any area where a robust construction is desirable in order to
minimise the risk of impact damage.

Description
The system comprises steel channels, which are fixed to the wall as top and bottom horizontal retaining elements, into
which the panels are inserted. This method is used for both continuous runs or individual panels. Vertical elements
are occasionally used to start or terminate a run of panels, dependent on the application. The panels are manufactured
as a ‘tray’ from perforated steel, manufactured from plastic coated steel or pre-finished in powder coat paint, into
which is inserted a mineral fibre core, faced behind the perforate steel with a black non-woven cloth. The panels are
inserted into the retaining channels by lifting up into the top horizontal at an angle, bringing the base in to the
wall and allowing it to drop into place in the bottom horizontal. This method continues along continuous runs with
panels pushed together to create neat butt joints.
Specification
Panel thickness is either 50mm or 100mm with maximum overall size generally restricted to approximately 300mm wide x
2500/3000mm high. The steel ‘tray’ would be manufactured from 0.7mm thick perforated steel with a 30% free area,
whilst the retaining channels would be manufactured from 1.2mm thick steel. The mineral fibre would have a density of
45kg/m³ and the system weight would be 6.0kg/m³.
Acoustic Performance
The panels provide the following sound absorption coefficients.
| Frequency(Hz) | 125 | 250 | 500 | 1K | 2K | 4K |
| 50mm thick | 0.21 | 0.67 | 1.18 | 0.96 | 0.76 | 0.72 |
| 100mm thick | 0.57 | 0.88 | 1.15 | 1.06 | 0.83 | 0.82 |
Product Maintenance
Under no circumstances should water be used to high pressure clean or saturate/soak the absorbers. Periodic use of a
vacuum cleaner, or careful use of a soft brush, is recommended for removal of light dust. The perforated face of the
panel can be wiped with a damp cloth.
