Acoustic Curtains
Flexible Sound Absorbent Fabric Systems
Heavy duty, flame retardant, acoustically absorbent fabrics that can be used with various track systems, affording greater flexibility than fixed sound absorptive panels. Typically used for dance, drama and music rehearsal spaces, in venues ranging from schools to theatres. Acoustic curtains can be used conventionally to cover window areas, to divide spaces or arranged to cover hard or reflective surfaces, allowing an element of acoustic 'tuning' within a room.

General Information on Acoustic Curtains
Acoustic curtains are manufactured from either wool serge or velvet velour, as the heavier nature of
these fabrics provide the best acoustic results. Super wool serge which is only available in black is the
best in terms of sound absorption due to it's higher weight, coloured wool serge and velvet velour
provide a little less sound absorption due to their lighter weight. Velvet velour does, however, have
aesthetic benefits in terms of fabric quality and colour range. Track selection is based on application,
dependent on curtain size/weight and arrangement.
Curtain Specification
| Fabric | Super Wool Serge | Coloured Wool Serge | Velvet Velour |
| Maximum Width | 1500mm | 1500mm | 1220mm |
| Weight | 625 g/m² | 420 g/m² | 395 g/m² |
| Colour Options | Black | 16 Colours | 34 Colours |
All the above fabrics are Durably Flame Retardant (DFR), chemically treated to withstand a number of
cleanings and meet the requirements of BS5867: Part2B. Curtains are usually manufactured with hemmed
edges, lining if required, sewn in chain weights at the base and either golf bag hooks or Rufflette tape
with tab hooks at the top.
Curtain Track
For most medium weight systems we utilise Hall Stage T60 or Triple E 2-Way track. Both of these are
finished in black and suit single rail systems in either straight or curved arrangements. Various brackets
can be supplied to suit wall or ceiling mounting. For lighter weight curtains we recommend Hall Stage
T200 or Silent Gliss track systems. Curtains can be manual 'walk along' operation, drawstring operated
or electrically motorised. For heavier systems we recommend the use of Hall Stage T70 track.
Acoustic Performance
Acoustic curtains are primarily intended for sound absorptive applications, as they offer minimal sound
transmission loss. We therefore do not recommend their use for domestic applications to reduce the
effects of traffic noise through windows. We are, however, able to offer a custom made curtain that is
manufactured with a sound blocking lining that will afford a sound reduction of 15-20dBa, suitable for
larger applications such as space dividers - further details are available on request.
| Frequency(Hz) | 125 | 250 | 500 | 1K | 2K | 4K |
| Super Wool Serge | 0.14 | 0.35 | 0.55 | 0.72 | 0.70 | 0.65 |
| Coloured Wool Serge | 0.07 | 0.31 | 0.49 | 0.75 | 0.70 | 0.60 |
| Velvet Velour | 0.06 | 0.29 | 0.46 | 0.70 | 0.65 | 0.56 |
The above sound absorption coefficients are based on unlined curtains manufactured to 50% fullness.
Maintenance
Curtain fabric can only be cleaned with a vacuum cleaner or soft brush. Wet cleaning of flame retardant
material will compromise the fire resistance and must be avoided. Dry cleaning is possible with care, but
only as a last resort. The track should be periodically cleaned to keep surfaces clear of dust and grease,
joint alignment should be checked and fixings tightened if necessary. Worn or broken parts should be
replaced.
